Who is a good leader or a good employer? There are hundreds of thousands of articles available on the internet. Yes, a good leader knows what is right for his workforce and what isn’t. He thinks about every strategy and plans that can lead his company to success. But have you ever considered taking opinions from your hard-working clan? Given any position or post, each human has a creative streak that can ignite the best possible ideas at unexpected times, or point out some faults in the loop which you may be unaware of. Your employees’ opinions and feedbacks can help you overcome major obstacles at times. Great leaders have a quality of listening to their employees which can help them in the following ways-
One simple reason why HR departments are so concerned about the workplace culture is the employees’ satisfaction of working in a good environment. Feedback from employees can help you analyze about workplace issues, know about improvements in various aspects, and more.
Not only this, employees have a certain image of a preferred leader. Someone with good ethics, not a rude personality, responsible, flexible, etc., they look up to such leaders. The easiest way to find out about what kind of a leader your workforce is looking for is their opinion.
Taking your employees’ opinions will not make you small, but a better leader, cent per cent.
Some employees may be really hard-toilers, putting in their maximum, and giving the best possible outcomes. But there is a possibility that they might still feel under-valued or not valued at all. The reason for employee turnover ratios is linked with employee valuation also.
65 percent of employees who do not feel valued are not satisfied with their jobs, according to CareerBuilder, as reported by Human Resources Today. Moreover, a poll by Harris Poll shows that 51 percent of the employees surveyed do not feel valued at work. This can be the result of not offering performance recognition at individual level, by almost 46 percent of the companies surveyed. Taking your employees’ opinions and feedbacks will make them feel valued.
Remember, you are not the only employer. If your employee does not feel valued, even if he is one of the best ones, he will change routes, to a new company.
As a manager or leader, you know all the positives and negatives of your employees. But sometimes you cannot catch hold of minor faults in even the oldest of your team members. Who knows better about one another than the ones working together for 9-5? It may even happen that sometimes one of your favorite employee may just be creating a fake bubble of goodness and might be actually the rotten fruit of the box.
In such cases, your employees are the only ones who can help you find it out. Having private feedback and opinion sessions with each one of them can bring to surface many hidden issues, even the bad employees.
So, as a good leader, it is important to consider your employees’ opinions and feedback also. We don’t say that you should blindly follow every opinion received, but they can at least help you gain an insight about important matters.
