How long does it take to get results?
Most background checks are completed within 1–3 business days, depending on the type of screening requested.
What types of background checks do you offer?
SBS offers criminal background checks, national criminal database searches, county and federal court searches, sex offender searches, motor vehicle records (MVRs), medical sanctions searches, and identity-related screening. We also provide drug testing and electronic applicant onboarding through SBS EZyApp.
How accurate are background checks?
SBS uses reliable screening sources and established research procedures to provide accurate, up-to-date information. Because records originate from multiple courts, agencies, and databases, availability and reporting times can vary by jurisdiction.
Does SBS comply with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)?
Yes. SBS is a Consumer Reporting Agency and provides employment background screening services in accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Employers are also responsible for following applicable federal, state, and local requirements when using background information for employment decisions.
Do I need a contract to use SBS?
SBS does not require a long-term service contract. Clients complete a Client Services and User Agreement as required for permissible use of consumer reports under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). There are no minimum monthly orders or long-term commitments.
How do I order a background check?
Once your SBS account is established, simply log in to our secure online system and submit your background check request. SBS provides an easy-to-use, web-based process with no software to install.
Does the applicant need to come into our office?
No. With SBS EZyApp, applicants can securely complete the required authorization and provide their information electronically from a computer or mobile device. This helps simplify the screening process for both employers and applicants.
Do you offer drug testing?
Yes. SBS offers 5-panel, 10-panel, and DOT-compliant drug testing through a nationwide network of collection sites. Drug tests can be ordered through the same SBS system used for background screening, providing clients with one convenient screening solution.
What happens if a background check returns a criminal record?
A criminal record does not automatically mean an applicant should be disqualified from employment. Employers should consider the nature and relevance of the record, applicable laws, and their hiring policies. If an employer may take adverse action based on a consumer report, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires specific pre-adverse and adverse action procedures.
