Average compensation for CEOs of the largest publicly traded U.S. companies grew by 17.6 percent to $18.9 million last year, according to a new report, and the ratio of CEO-to-worker compensation rose to 312-to-1—five times greater than the 58-to-1 ratio in 1989. Organizations should be prepared to respond to questions about CEO pay in light of news reports that employees might see.
