Dear Jane,
My new coworker is a notorious nose-picker. He picks his nose every morning when he arrives at work, and he doesn’t even hide it! I’m literally gagging as I write this email to you.
We sit in an open office setting where all teammates form a cluster around one another so it gets easier to communicate while working on projects. Unless I move to someplace else, I don’t see myself getting liberated from the daily torment of this nose-picker’s routine. It’s becoming very difficult for me to work near him and I’m at my wit’s end.
I don’t want ‘Sam’ the nose-picking coworker to touch any of my items on my workspace. At the same time, I don’t want to try things like placing tissues and wastebaskets around his workspace to get it to stop. I believe that is an insulting move. I also don’t want to become ‘That Picky Girl’ at work who just cannot work with others. I’ve banged my mouse once or twice to distract him and even sighed once, but nothing stops him. I am shocked that other people in my office haven’t noticed it yet.
I don’t know if there’s a polite way to ask him to stop. I would appreciate your advice on this matter.
