Jobless Claims Continue to Hover Near Record Low

States reported that 180,000 workers filed for new unemployment benefits during the week ending Apr. 23, reflecting an extremely tight labor market. New jobless claims have returned to pre-pandemic levels since the end of 2021 and have recently hovered near their lowest levels since the 1960s. Claims had totaled near 600,000 one year ago.
