When the pandemic has taken over the world, and people are hunkered down riding the wave, most companies have taken the remote work route to keep things going. Video streaming apps and tech tools that make communication easier are being incorporated for a smooth working environment. Additionally, skills that are being talked about are engagement and communicating effectively among teams spread across the globe for better outputs.
Soft skills of extracting the maximum through good communication, interactions, and engagement tactics are being touted everywhere.
But what about the hard skills, the nuts and bolts of our skills that keep things moving?
What are hard skills and how to highlight this aspect when applying for a new job or job change are what we will cover in this article.
Hard skills are abilities that let you tackle job-specific duties and responsibilities. Hard skills can be learned through courses, vocational training, and on the job. These skills enable one to handle specific tasks and processes such as the use of tools, equipment, or software.
We have already covered what soft skills are at the beginning of the article—these cover communication, empathy, and leadership traits.
So what scores over the other? According to a Linkedin study, 57 percent of employees rank soft skills over hard skills (43 percent).
But one thing is certain without hard skills, it is difficult to carry out a job. You need the knowledge of the how and whereof of the job to carry out any task.
Softskill determines the peripheries of that job, like performance, how you fit into a team, the general ethos and culture to enable you to carry out your hard skills effectively. It does not have to be an either/or situation but an amalgamation of the two.
So how does one highlight the hard skills on a resume?
It is not just about listing your education or the certificates or experience in the job.
One needs first to see the job description. Does your education, knowledge and experience fit in with it?
What are the keywords used while describing the jobs?
Create a list that matches the key requirements.
Have a special skill set column and highlight the relevant ones there.
List out your professional achievements with examples and outcomes. This should obviously be based on your expertise in the field. How your application of a tool, a supply chain glitch solution, or even getting the correct software to handle administrative tasks helped the ultimate outcomes, can be highlighted.

IT engineering skills can be programming, CAD, coding, Information technology, and communications that includes skills at using various operating systems.
The list can go on; this is just the tip of the specializations that one can showcase.
Certificates and additional course mentions are a way to validate your skills and show your knowledge.
