Fla. Lawmakers Punt on Mandatory E-Verify

​The Florida legislature passed a bill March 12 effectively reinforcing the status quo—public agencies and state contractors are required to use the federal E-Verify system to check if new hires are authorized to work in the U.S., while private employers can choose to do so. The bill is headed to Gov. Ron DeSantis, who is expected to sign it.
