First-Time Jobless Claims Fell 55,000 From the Previous Week

States reported that 787,000 U.S. workers filed for new unemployment benefits during the week ending Oct. 17, the eighth consecutive week of initial jobless claims under 1 million. The total number of workers continuing to claim unemployment benefits dropped to 8.3 million last week, falling below 10 million for the first time since March.
