First Jury Verdict Issued in Illinois Biometric Privacy Act Class Action

A federal jury in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois recently concluded that a company violated the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act 45,600 times over six years by collecting truck drivers’ fingerprints without informed, written consent. This is the first jury verdict rendered under BIPA, following a spike in class-action filings under the statute.
