In order to better understand the reasons why some employers consider prior pay among the factors they use in making pay decisions, SHRM conducted a recent poll of 616 members to provide a snapshot of use. As the information below shows, the majority of employers who consider prior pay use it as a way to ensure they can land their candidate of choice by framing an attractive offer, screening out those they cannot afford, or increasing their offer to attract a candidate away from a current job.
