​Not long after the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) announced the appointment of Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, as its new president and chief executive officer, employees at SHRM learned that Taylor had earned his certification the old-fashioned way: He took the exam.
