Unemployment Claims Remain Low as Inflation Rises

States reported that 227,000 workers filed for new unemployment benefits during the week ending Mar. 5, an increase of 11,000 from the previous week’s revised level. New jobless claims have held at normal, pre-pandemic levels since the end of 2021. In contrast, one year ago, over 700,000 workers were initiating new unemployment claims.
