Steps To Perfect Your Next Job Change

For most persons, the process of a job change is nothing more than a temporary occupation, and they are grateful for that. Immediately a new job is landed, email alerts are turned off regarding job openings in their field. They also cease from cover letter writings. Regardless of the comfort of your new job position, you still need to do a lot to perfect your next job change. Below are five strategies to consider.

1. Keep notes of your accomplishments

It’s your responsibility to jot down your accomplishments at work and other responsibilities assigned aside from your regular position demands, so form a habit of doing that. One challenging task often faced by people as they update their resume is the difficulty in remembering job details; various achievements and contributions made over two or more years ago.

Avoid this challenge now, so your future self will be grateful. To do this, you can use a notebook or even your phone’s notepad to record events as they happen. This will serve you well when you do a year-end review or applying for a promotion. It will also be vital if you abruptly leave the company and no longer have access to your work emails.

2. Acquire new skills

Do you have the chance to learn a new skill or program? Are you opposed to managerial training? If you are, then take advantage of those opportunities. Engage in projects that are aimed at developing and broadening your skills (soft or hard). New and improved skills will do your resume a lot of good as well as improves your own employability when you seek new jobs.

3. Increase your network

Utilize your office to profit on networking. Opportunities to show the kind of worker you are is made available by consistent working with the same set of persons.  There are opportunities to get connected with these persons. Do utilize these opportunities effectively and build your network. Also, seek means of interacting with people outside your department as well.

Regularly make yourself visible in the office. Aside just within your cubicle, show up in social gatherings and occasionally around the office. To achieve this, you might consider moving your lunch hours away from your desk to a more communal area.

4. Build a good relationship with your manager

Here is important advice, always be in your direct supervisor’s good book. Ensure that in all your dealings that you establish a strong, positive, and productive relationship with your manager. A good manager will assist you in any way possible to achieve your goals.

A healthy relationship will earn you remembrance and recommendations from your boss in a positive way. It will also make them comfortably serve as your reference anytime as well as refer you for job positions and responsibilities.

5. Do your job well

Don’t neglect this. Take your position and responsibilities very seriously and perform given tasks enthusiastically and perfectly. This will build your reputation and recognition within your company. One thing you gain from committing to your work passionately is that, during your next job interview, you must have gathered meaningful anecdotes to share. You can always use yourself and successful projects as a reference.
