Payroll Growth During Omicron Surge Surprises

​U.S. employers surprisingly added 467,000 new jobs in January, according to the latest employment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The unemployment rate ticked up to 4 percent from 3.9 percent in December. The data was collected during the rapidly spreading surge of the omicron variant of COVID-19.
