Jobless Claims Hold Near 50-Year Low

States reported that 185,000 workers filed for new unemployment benefits during the week ending Apr. 9, pointing to a labor market still short on surplus workers. New jobless claims have returned to pre-pandemic levels since the end of 2021 and fell to the lowest level since 1968 last week. Claims had topped 645,000 one year ago.
