Hiring Stalled in December

U.S. employers added 199,000 new jobs in December 2021, coming in well below expectations, according to the latest employment report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The unemployment rate dropped to 3.9 percent from 4.2 percent in November. Notably, the December employment data was collected before the rapidly spreading Omicron variant of COVID-19 impacted the labor market.
